Sewing Diary

What I've sewn since May...

  • Finished queen-size wedding quilt for granddaughter Paige and her husband Matt.
  • 2 crib quilts for church bazaar, utilizing my new ruffler.  Fun!
  • Dress for Paige & Matt's big day, which I spent in the hospital.  Dress still unworn.  DKNY pattern.  I had high hopes for the pattern and printed poly fabric.  Result looks like a nightie.  A colorful nightie, but still a nightie.
  • 2 nightgowns (seersucker) and robe.  Yellow.  Love that sunny color.
  • Jacket from downloaded and printed (all 40 pages) Burda pattern.
  • 2 jackets from .  Love the black woven.  Do not love the white knit.
  • 1 jacket from McCall's .  Can't get the thing to fit.  So far, 2 muslins discarded.
  • Blouse.  Red polka dot "tutti fruiti" fabric from Hancocks.  Turned out cute, but fabric has faded.
  • Blouse.  mcCalls .  The pattern looked neat and clean-lined, but with an unfortunate fabric choice (a small print on cotton) turned out resembling a nurse's smock.  Added a diagonal ruffle on wrapped front which at least eradicated the uniform look.
  • 2 pairs of slacks.  One denim.  One blue linen.  Vogue .  After two days of pattern adjusting, I may have a keeper.
  • 1 jumper, made of stash fabric.  After ulcer surgery in June, to hide the parafinalia hanging like leeches from my abdomen. Visually it removed several inches from my height and added them to my hips.  Baaad outcome. Tossed.
  • 1 skirt, from a blue/yellow/green border print.  Finally have something to wear with the kiwi green knit top I once foolishly purchased.
  • Matching skirt and vest, Simplicity .  Blue .  This pattern, which I've had for awhile and never before used, turned out to be a keeper.
  • Assorted pot holders for church bazaar.  Not worth the time they take.

WIP  (works in progress)

  • Red and white king-sized quilt.  Top sewn.  Needs to be quilted.
  • Denim quilt for grandson Devin.
  • Blouse, fuschia, unknown velvety wrinkled fabric from Fabric Mart free assortment.  McCalls .  More on that later.
  • Jacket, long-sleeved and quilted (flannel), for autumn.  Must replace lost pattern piece before proceeding.  How did I do that, you asked?  Darned if I know.
  • Pillow cover to match afghan, already knitted.
  • Knitted scarf, of a fine gauge, cashmere yarn.  On teensy, tiny needles.  Aargh.
